Dr Louisa Buttanshaw
My Experience
Hello, my name is Louisa and I am a Clinical Psychologist offering individual therapy. I have worked in NHS mental health services since 2015 and now work in private practice alongside my NHS role. I specialise in seeing adults with mental health difficulties and have experience working with people with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression/low mood, PTSD and Complex-PTSD, dissociation, panic, phobias, OCD, worry and stress/burnout.
I am particularly passionate about working with people who are experiencing difficulties in the present that are related to past experiences or trauma. As well as having experience offering therapy for these types of difficulties, I have also worked delivering training in trauma informed care for other professionals working in health and social care services.
My Values
Being human can be tough and I believe that therapy can be useful for navigating through periods of feeling stuck or overwhelmed, overcoming difficult past events and helping with difficult thoughts and feelings. I have a warm and compassionate style through which I aim to create a safe, containing and supportive space in which you can make sense of your experiences and think about how you can move forwards.
The models I work with
I have trained in a range of psychological approaches and offer therapies that are based on best practice guidelines and the research evidence base. I will also think with you about your personal preferences and style so that therapy is tailored to your specific needs. The main models that I use are Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
Clinic Information
I currently hold a clinic in Byfleet, Surrey with appointments on a Monday afternoon/evening. I work with people from aged 16 years and upwards.
