Dr Katy Stevens
My Experience
My experience as a Clinical Psychologist has included over 15 years working within the NHS and private sector, supporting individuals with a range of difficulties such as depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, low self esteem and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I currently work as a specialist trauma therapist within the NHS and have extensive experience of working with individuals who have experienced recent and historic traumatic events and may be struggling with the effects of these traumas on their day to day lives. This includes working with military veterans suffering with PTSD, anger issues and difficulties surrounding transitioning to civilian life.
My Values
I approach my role as a clinical psychologist with empathy, warmth and acceptance. I work collaboratively with my clients to support them to develop an understanding of their own personal experiences and struggles, formulating together a way forward that allows them to live life in line with their values. I understand that it can feel hard to approach therapy, and with a kind curiosity I focus on supporting my clients to feel comfortable and heard, helping the process to feel like a positive and safe experience. I have specialist experience of working within a compassion focused framework and bring this model and its values to my work, offering a compassionate space for my clients to explore their difficulties.
Models I work with
I use a variety of therapeutic models within my work including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement De-sensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness. I work together with my clients to find a model that suits them, integrating models where appropriate to tailor therapy to their own personal goals.
