Dr Aarti Patel-Manoj
My Experience
I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. I have worked in the field of mental health within the NHS since 2007. I have experience of working in range of mental health and medical settings. This has given me experience working with adults with complex and enduring mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, as well as physical health conditions. I have experience of working with presentations such as:
- Anxiety (panic, health anxiety, worry, social anxiety)
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
- Sleep difficulties
- Long term health conditions
- Health difficulties
- Adjustment to traumatic life events, and
- Work related stress.
Within my NHS role, I work with individuals with complex health difficulties, often coping with the anxiety of a life limiting condition, requiring surgery or whom may have spent a significant time in hospital or ITU.
My Values
I believe that individuals should be given the space and time to be heard and listened to in a nonjudgmental and compassionate way. I aim to provide a warm, calm, and safe space, enabling you to feel comfortable and relaxed in order to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and life’s struggles. I believe these are essential in developing a therapeutic relationship, where client and therapist can work together collaboratively, in order to understand themselves, their beliefs and how they relate to the world. From this place of safety I believe individuals can be supported to enable them to seek empowerment to create the changes that may wish to make, to regain their ability to cope. I believe the wider context and the role of power to be an important element in our understanding of the world and our struggles.
The models I work with
I draw upon several evidence based therapies, predominantly Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, as well as, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). When needed, I integrate Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) informed approaches, as well as psychodynamic concepts to understand and work on the goals that are most important to you in order to create change and enhance your wellbeing.
