My Experience

I have worked in NHS mental health services as a Clinical Psychologist since 1999, working primarily with children, adolescents and families although also have experience in adult services. This has been in a variety of different community settings, but the nature of this work has been largely on severe and complex mental health difficulties.

I can help with a range of common emotional difficulties in young people including:

  • Anxiety disorders including social anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, panic, fears, separation anxiety and phobias
  • Attachment and relational difficulties
  • Behaviour concerns
  • Challenges in parenting (including adopted children)
  • Depression and low mood
  • Issues affecting school attendance
  • Low self-esteem
  • Self-harming behaviours
  • Tics
  • Trauma including abuse and PTSD

My approach is inclusive and neuro affirmative and I can support young people who are or are suspected neurodivergent.

My Values

For me therapy is a team effort approached collaboratively, and I will work with you towards a shared understanding of your difficulties within a warm and respectful environment. I can offer different perspectives on possible ways forward whilst being alongside you, and I want to give you the confidence and skills to achieve the kind of life that you want. I am passionate about helping young people and families live valued and fulfilled lives, and actively support parents in this process. I follow best practice guidelines, while at the same time tailoring my approach to fit with your individual needs.

Models I work with

I have further training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) both for young people and adults and Dyadic Developmental Therapy (DDP). I also use mindfulness based approaches and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I can use models in their pure form, or adapt my approach to draw on a variety of different models to suit your situation and preference. Having an integrative approach is a common way of working for Clinical Psychologists.
