Dr Mayowa Aina
I have worked in psychological services since 2007 supporting adolescents and adults to understand, manage, change and thrive in their mental health and wellbeing. I have experience working with a broad range of personal development issues and difficulties, relationship and relational problems, mental health and ill health and clinical health difficulties. These include difficulties such as anxiety (OCD, Phobias, and Panic), low mood, emotion regulation difficulties, trauma and psychosis. I also have experience of supporting people with relationship difficulties, stress, adjustment to illness (for example coming to terms with a cancer diagnosis), bereavement and life stage transitions.
I value creating a safe space where people can share and explore their experiences. I feel that this is crucial because it allows people to move towards their full potential and to feel supported to make choices about the valued directions they would like to move forward in. This flexible and collaborative approach to the therapeutic relationship is so important because it enables the client to become empowered and to move towards a richer and more fulfilling experience of life.
The Models I Work With
I work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Systemic Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I recognise and value that each person is an individual. I am aware that each individual will have their own unique circumstances that have led them to their current difficult situation. In response to this, I tailor therapy to each person I work with. I achieve this by using elements of the different therapies that are best placed to support the particular difficulties each person is facing.
