Dr Sian ChappleBSc(hons), DClinPsych
I have worked in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services since 2008 providing therapeutic input and support to children aged four to eighteen years of age and their families. I also work extensively with adoptive families and children in the care system as well as the networks around these children, including foster carers and residential home carers. Previously, I have also worked with adults with mild to moderate mental health difficulties as well as adults in an inpatient service with complex care needs and psychosis. I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties, including relationship and relational problems, mental health, emerging personality disorders and a range behavioural problems (for example from withdrawn and self-harming to aggressive, challenging, defiant and oppositional behaviours) and trauma.
My work takes the form of working towards client goals while offering insight into their difficulties and an opportunity to process problems and experiences within a trusting therapeutic relationship and space. I work alongside clients to assist them in developing the skills and knowledge to move forward in their lives and continue their development beyond therapeutic sessions.
The Models I Work With
I work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), attachment based therapies including Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR) and systemic approaches. I also utilise an integrative approach working across models to meet each individual’s needs. This is based on thorough assessments of client need which is continually updated and reformulated according to new information as the work progresses. This is achieved by working collaboratively with clients who take an active role in the process. I offer input on an individual basis and as a family or parent and child as well as utilising group approaches for parents within my role.
