Portsmouth Clinic

My Experience

I have worked in NHS, charitable and private healthcare services since 2009. My experience has included working with adults with mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression, medically unexplained symptoms, chronic pain as well as adults adjusting to life after a brain injury or physical health problems. I am currently working in the NHS with adults who have mental health problems, a dementia or a learning disability. I work with the individual, their partner, carer or family, depending on what is appropriate.

My Values

I believe in providing people with a calm and safe space, allowing them to take the time to explore their current and historical experiences. It is through this, I hope to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and an appreciation for the direction they would like their life to move in. I believe by building on their existing strengths we can work towards a future where they feel more able to cope with difficult experiences and can make steps towards living a richer and more meaningful life.

The Models I work with

I use a variety of psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help people live more fulfilled lives and move towards the goals which are important to them. I seek to take into account an understanding of their wider situation and adapt my approach according to their own needs, abilities and wishes.
